Currys wants to buy your old television – even if it's broken.

While you probably only think of buying a new telly from Currys, the latest offer from the high street store lets you sell your existing kit back to them, unlocking a generous discount on something new.

Box up and mail your existing telly to the retailer, or drop it off in the nearest Currys store, and you'll earn credit that you can use to upgrade to something new.

While you can do this at any time with the tech retailer, this time is particularly notable because you can stack your money back with the current promotion on the Hisense TVs powered by Freely. For instance, you can save £900 on the Hisense E7Q plus an additional £50 when you trade in your old device.

For those who don't know, Freely launched in the first half of 2024. Built by the same team as Freeview and Freesat, this new platform is forecast to overtake both of these by the end of the decade.

With a Freely-compatible television plugged in, you can stream the most popular channels in the UK, including GB News, and more than 70,000 hours of on-demand content — that's more than you'll find in the Netflix catalogue.

Features that you'd usually associate with Sky TV and other paid-for platforms, like the ability to restart a show that's currently on-air when you tune in halfway through, are available at no cost with Freely TV.

If you want to trade-in your old TV with Currys, you'll want to keep in mind that they're only taking them off your hands in conjunction with the Hisense TV promotion until 11:59pm on February 3, 2026.

HISENSE E7Q 85" QLED 4K Smart AI TV with Freely
$1799 $849

You can bring your entertainment to life with the Hisense E7Q 85" TV. Its AI-powered Hi-View Engine enhances every frame, giving even older content like your favourite classic movies a cinematic upgrade. Plus, the Dolby Vision HDR boosts contrast for stunning detail, and Dolby Atmos creates an immersive surround sound experience.

This specific telly features Quantum Dot Colour. If you're not familiar with this specific tech, it involves adding a layer of ultra-fine particles, known as "quantum dots" (hence the name), which emit precise colours when illuminated by a backlight. This is different from a regular LCD screen, which uses a backlit to shine light through liquid crystals that act like shutters — opening and closing to let certain colours through. Colour filters tint the light emitted into red, green, and blue that, when viewed from afar, creates the picture on-screen.

This works well enough, but colours are rarely vibrant and can become muddied in busy scenes.

Quantum Dot displays improve on this technology by adding a layer of glowing jewels (quantum dots) in front of the backlight to supercharge the colours. The result is brighter, richer, more accurate colours compared to LCD.

It's clever stuff and makes a real difference when watching HDR content compared to standard LED displays. HDR, which stands for High Dynamic Range, is widely supported by the latest generation of consoles, Blu-ray players, set-top boxes from Sky and Virgin TV, as well as streamers like Apple TV+, Prime Video, and Netflix.

HISENSE U7Q PRO 85" Mini LED 4K
$1999 $1399

The Hisense U7Q Pro features thousands of Mini LEDs spread across hundreds of local dimming zones, allowing for precise control over brightness and contrast. This results in deep, inky blacks, bright highlights, and improved detail in both dark and bright scenes.

It’s worth noting that while many Mini LED TVs—like this model—also incorporate Quantum Dot technology, the two are not inherently dependent on one another.

With this TV, you truly get the best of both worlds.

In addition, the Hisense U7Q features Game Mode Ultra and a 165 Hz refresh rate to give you ultra-smooth, lag-free gameplay.

Save up to £100 when you trade-in and upgrade to the HISENSE A6Q 85" LED 4K HDR Smart TV from Currys

The Hisense 4K Mini LED Smart TV A6Q is designed for everyday viewing with AI upscaling, smooth motion, Dolby Vision, and Freely live TV over Wi‑Fi. Compared with the Hisense E7Q PRO QLED 4K HDR Smart TV with Freely, it has simpler LED lighting and fewer picture enhancements. The Hisense U7Q PRO Mini LED 4K 165Hz Smart AI TV with Freely goes further with Mini LED, higher refresh rates and better contrast for movies and gaming. It also comes in 43", 50", 55", 58", 65", and 75".

HISENSE A6Q 85" LED 4K HDR Smart TV
$799 $699

The Hisense A6Q is designed with AI upscaling, smooth motion tech, and Dolby Vision HDR. It's built to deliver clear everyday picture quality and easy streaming, making it ideal for films, sports and casual gaming.

Compared to the above E7Q, the A6Q is similar in everyday watchability but uses a direct‑lit LED panel rather than QLED’s quantum dot colour layer — so colours and brightness aren’t as rich.

Against the U7Q, the difference is even bigger — the U7Q uses Mini LED backlighting with many dimming zones, higher refresh rates and stronger contrast, giving more vibrant HDR, smoother gaming and deeper blacks.

Overall, A6Q may deliver the greatest value for your money, whereas the E7Q adds richer colour, and the U7Q is set to deliver the best picture and motion performance.
