Lindsey Vonn was airlifted to hospital after her crash | GETTYDespite 82 World Cup victories and numerous surgeries, Vonn retired in 2019, seemingly finished with the sport.
However, in 2024, she opted to return. Driven by a successful knee replacement and an unyielding competitive fire, she defied age to qualify for this year's Games.
On January 30, disaster struck.
She ruptured her ASL while skiing at a World Cup downhill race in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, just nine days before the Olympic final.
Vonn lost control while exiting a jump at high speed, resulting in a violent crash that led to her being airlifted from the course.
Despite the rupture, accompanied by a bone bruise and meniscus damage, Vonn chose to forego immediate surgery to compete in the Milano Cortina 2026 Games. However, her crash on Sunday means this year's event will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
