Jessica Pegula defeated Barbora Krejcikova in straight sets to reach another US Open semi-final

Jessica Pegula secured her place in the US Open semi-finals for the second successive year following a commanding 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Barbora Krejcikova on Tuesday evening at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The American fourth seed required less than 90 minutes to dispatch the Czech former world number two, who had dramatically rescued eight match points in her previous encounter with Taylor Townsend.

Pegula established early dominance in both sets, racing to 3-0 advantages through aggressive baseline play and frequent net approaches.

Despite Krejcikova's attempts at recovery, seven double faults throughout the match undermined her efforts, with the final two coming in the concluding game.

The 31-year-old American has yet to surrender a set throughout the tournament, demonstrating exceptional consistency on the hard courts at Flushing Meadows.

Her flawless progression sets up a potential semi-final clash with world number one Aryna Sabalenka, should the Belarusian overcome Marketa Vondrousova in Tuesday night's quarter-final.

Such a meeting would recreate last year's final, where Sabalenka emerged victorious.

The fourth seed's serving statistics proved particularly impressive against Krejcikova, contrasting sharply with her opponent's struggles on second serve, where the Czech won merely 28 per cent of points in the opening set.

Pegula expressed astonishment at her evolution as a big-match performer, telling reporters: "It's crazy to feel this comfortable on the biggest court in the world with the craziest crowd and the best players."

The American reflected on her dramatic transformation over the past decade. "Ten years ago I never thought I'd be good at this, but I guess I am," she admitted.

"I've been playing some really good tennis. I've been playing really solid and having good starts."

Pegula's journey to tennis prominence comes against the backdrop of extraordinary family wealth.

Her parents, Terry and Kim Pegula, own both the NFL's Buffalo Bills and NHL's Buffalo Sabres, with the family's fortune estimated at approximately $6.7 billion.

The New York-born athlete began playing tennis aged seven, with her family relocating multiple times—from Pennsylvania to South Carolina and Florida—to support her sporting ambitions.

Now recognised as one of the world's most accomplished female tennis players, Pegula represents the sole remaining American alongside Amanda Anisimova in the women's singles draw.

Her progression marks only her second Grand Slam semi-final appearance across 24 main draw attempts at majors.
