Alexander Zverev has been spotted training with the pair in Mallorca

Alexander Zverev has been spotted training with Toni Nadal at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca following his shock first-round exit at Wimbledon and subsequent withdrawal from the ATP 250 event in Gstaad.

The world No3 suffered a surprising defeat to Arthur Rinderknech at the All England Club before pulling out of this week's Swiss tournament.

Video footage has emerged showing the German working on hard courts at the academy in Manacor, taking advice from Rafael Nadal's uncle and former long-time coach.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Toni Nadal could potentially become Zverev's new head coach, with Rafael Nadal possibly serving as a mentor.

Paul Hauser, a Sky Sports Germany commentator, reported: "Sky Exclusive: Alexander Zverev is training at the moment in Mallorca at the Rafa Nadal Academy with Toni Nadal.

"Uncle Toni could be the new head coach of Zverev, Rafa Nadal could act as a mentor."

The 64-year-old Toni coached his nephew to 16 of his 22 Grand Slam titles before departing his team in 2017.

Zverev has reached three Grand Slam finals but fallen short each time, losing the 2020 US Open, 2024 French Open and most recently the 2025 Australian Open to Jannik Sinner.

The 28-year-old has previously worked with high-profile coaches including Juan Carlos Ferrero, Ivan Lendl and David Ferrer, though none of these partnerships developed into long-term relationships.

His father, Alexander Sr, has remained his primary coach throughout most of his career, with brother Mischa also part of the coaching team.

Following his Wimbledon defeat, Zverev revealed he has been struggling mentally since his Australian Open final loss in January.

"I feel very alone out there at times. I struggle mentally. I've been saying that since after the Australian Open," he said.

"I feel, generally speaking, quite alone in life at the moment, which is a feeling that is not very nice."

He explained it was "not a feeling on a tennis court, it's just a life feeling in general" and that he found it "difficult to find joy outside the tennis court."

The partnership could mark a significant turning point for Zverev, who at 28 is seeking a long-term solution to finally capture an elusive Grand Slam title.

Toni Nadal previously worked with Felix Auger-Aliassime between 2021 and 2024, whilst maintaining his role as director of the Rafa Nadal Academy.

Boris Becker had recently questioned whether Zverev needed outside coaching influence, prompting a strong response from the German before this apparent change in approach.

Zverev is expected to return to action at the Canadian Open, where he claimed victory in 2017.
