Nick Kyrgios also lashed out at the media for appearing to manufacture a rivalry with Christopher Eubanks

Nick Kyrgios lambasted the BBC for dropping him from their Wimbledon coverage with the broadcaster announcing their punditry team on Tuesday.

He also criticised the media for attempting to create controversy between himself and American tennis player Eubanks following his comments about the BBC.

The Australian former world number 13 accused broadcasters of stirring friction after he made remarks regarding the BBC's decision not to invite him back for commentary duties at this year's championships.

The 30-year-old, who provided analysis for BBC during last year's tournament, found himself at the centre of a media storm after expressing disappointment at being excluded from the broadcasting team.

Kyrgios expressed his frustration with the BBC's decision in an interview with The Guardian, suggesting the broadcaster had made a poor choice.

"It's unfortunate but it's probably their loss more than mine," he said.

The Australian took particular issue with the network's apparent preference for Eubanks, questioning the American's credentials.

"I understand they've got Chris Eubanks, but he hasn't beaten the greatest of all time multiple times," Kyrgios stated.

"When someone's beaten Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic and has incredible insights, it's very strange you wouldn't want that person adding knowledge to tennis fans."

Following backlash from fans, Kyrgios took to social media to clarify his position and defend against accusations of creating animosity with Eubanks.

The Australian attempted to defuse the situation by explaining his true feelings about the American commentator.

"The media makes me laugh honestly low key have always enjoyed Eubanks as a commentator, always going to spin what I say and turn it into some sort of rivalry or friction I think if we were on the same panel, would be beneficial to the sport tennis is weird," Kyrgios wrote on X.

He blamed media outlets for deliberately misinterpreting his original comments to manufacture conflict between the two players.

Eubanks subsequently addressed the matter, clarifying his position regarding the BBC coverage speculation.

The American revealed that neither he nor his team had any involvement with the British broadcaster's Wimbledon plans.

He confirmed he would not be participating in BBC's commentary team for the championships.

However, Eubanks expressed enthusiasm about competing at SW19, where he previously reached the quarter-finals in 2023.

The clarification effectively dispelled suggestions that he had replaced Kyrgios in the BBC's broadcasting lineup, further undermining the narrative of rivalry between the two players that had emerged following the Australian's initial comments.
