The Italian sustained an elbow injury against Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round

Jannik Sinner's coach has provided an update regarding the elbow injury sustained during his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov.

The world No1 will take to Centre Court this afternoon for the Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz whilst still managing the injury.

The Italian has been sporting a white arm sleeve since his fall in the opening game against Grigor Dimitrov on Monday.

The 23-year-old required medical attention for his right elbow after the tumble and underwent an MRI scan following the match.

Despite receiving clearance to continue in the tournament, Sinner has played with strapping below the elbow and the protective sleeve throughout his quarter-final victory over Ben Shelton and Friday's semifinal triumph against Novak Djokovic.

Sinner's coach Simone Vagnozzi has confirmed the injury remains an ongoing concern, telling Ubitennis: "We're managing it. It's getting better every day.

"When you're on the court, during the match, it's not even easy to understand what's happening. Then we did an MRI and several tests; he's managing it well and is focusing on what he can do."

When pressed about whether the 24-year-old is taking painkillers to manage the discomfort, Vagnozzi declined to elaborate: "I'd rather not go into details."

The injury appeared to affect Sinner's performance against Dimitrov, with the Bulgarian building a commanding lead before retiring with his own injury.

However, the Italian's serving prowess returned emphatically in the semi-finals.

Against Djokovic on Friday, Sinner delivered a tournament-high 12 aces whilst maintaining 74 per cent accuracy on his first serves.

This marked a significant improvement from his compromised serving during the Dimitrov encounter.

"Jannik was a bit conditioned by the fall, so he served slower and worse, and he also played slower with his forehand," Vagnozzi explained, noting how Dimitrov found it easier to vary his game as a result.

Looking ahead to this afternoon's final, Vagnozzi believes the match will be evenly contested despite Alcaraz's recent dominance in their rivalry.

"I think Sinner versus Alcaraz matches are now 50-50," he stated.

The Spaniard leads their head-to-head record 8-4 and has won their last five encounters, including last month's French Open final where Sinner squandered match points.

However, Vagnozzi highlighted the different dynamics on grass.

"Here, the playing styles change a bit because it's harder to defend, the serve matters more, and the movement is worse," he explained.

"We'll see who can take advantage of the opportunity and who will be in better shape that day."
