The British tennis star has suffered an arm injury that will keep him out of action for some weeks

British tennis star Jack Draper has announced his withdrawal from two major North American tournaments whilst recovering from an arm injury.

The 23-year-old will miss both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open after sustaining damage to his left arm following his Wimbledon campaign.

However, the Briton is planning to be back in action for the US Open later this year.

Taking to social media, Draper reassured supporters about his condition, stating: "After Wimbledon I picked up an injury in my left arm, nothing serious, but I have to make sure it recovers fully for the rest of the season."

Jack Draper suffered an arm injury but plans to return for the US Open

The British number one confirmed he would not compete in Toronto or Cincinnati, signing off his message with: "See you in NYC!"

The injury follows a frustrating Wimbledon campaign where Draper suffered a second-round defeat to Croatian player Marin Cilic across four sets.

His early exit marked a significant disappointment after entering the Championships with considerable expectations.

Former world number one John McEnroe had identified Draper as a potential dark horse capable of claiming the title at SW19.

However, the young Briton's tournament ended prematurely, falling well short of those lofty predictions.

The setback compounds what has been a challenging period for Draper, who must now focus on rehabilitation ahead of the year's final Grand Slam tournament in New York.

Draper aims to return for the US Open beginning on 24 August, where he reached the semi-finals in 2024.

The enforced break means he will enter the tournament without competitive match practice from the preceding Masters events.

Jack Draper was eliminated from Wimbledon early on despite plenty of hype

McEnroe had previously expressed concerns about potential injury risks for Draper due to his physical build.

The American highlighted the demands placed on the six-foot-four player's frame, suggesting his physique could lead to fitness issues.

"He's six foot four, I don't think he's got an ounce of fat on him," McEnroe observed, whilst discussing the physical toll of modern baseline tennis on taller players.

The Canadian Open has lost several marquee names alongside Draper's withdrawal.

World number one Jannik Sinner has pulled out of the tournament, whilst 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has also confirmed his absence.

Tournament organisers released an official statement acknowledging the withdrawals: "Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic have been forced to withdraw from the 2025 National Bank Open in Toronto as they recover following Wimbledon. Jack Draper has also withdrawn due to injury."

Both Sinner and Djokovic cited recovery needs as their reason for missing the event, which would have marked their first competitive action since the Championships concluded.
