He said: "Just an incredible feeling. I’m out here against Novak, to me the greatest tennis player there is, and someone I’ve been admiring and watching since I was a little kid.
"So to do that, I was just incredibly proud of myself.
"It gives me so much confidence. I still don’t feel like I’m playing anywhere near the way I want to play.
"I came out here tonight and I won that match through determination and trying to problem solve and do my best and have a great attitude."

Meanwhile, Sonay Kartal's impressive run at Indian Wells came to an unfortunate end when persistent back problems forced her to retire during her last-16 encounter with Elena Rybakina.
The British number two withdrew while trailing 6-4, 4-3 against the world number three, unable to continue despite battling gamely throughout the contest.
Kartal had been competing through considerable discomfort throughout the tournament, having previously overcome the pain to register notable victories against Emma Navarro and Madison Keys.
The back issue that had plagued her throughout the event ultimately proved too much to overcome against Rybakina's formidable opposition.
