The world No. 5 suffered a surprising defeat - ultimately ending Britain’s representation in the tournament

Jack Draper has been knocked out of the French Open in the fourth round by Kazakhstani Alexander Bublik.

The world No. 62 reached his first-ever Grand Sam quarter-final, beating the Briton 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4.

British No. 1 Draper was stunned by Bublik, despite the fact he was largely solid.

It's Draper's worst defeat by ranking since he lost in the first round at the Roland Garros last year.

It was a thrilling encounter in which Draper well and truly played his part, but came up short against a Bublik playing the tennis of his life.

The Briton took the first set but was pegged back in the second before Bublik grew into the match further, holding his nerve in the final set to seal the victory.

After the winning match point, Bublik fell to the floor, and reemerged covered in clay - but his grin told spectators he did not care.

Bublik hit 66 clean winners in his victory, of which around a third were drop shots.

An emotional Bublik spoke on Court Suzanne Lenglen after his momentous victory.

"Sometimes in life, there is only one chance, and I had a feeling that was mine. I couldn't let it slip. Standing here is the best moment of my life - period,” he said.

"Thank you guys, that was amazing. I'm standing here like I won the thing, but what can I say? I can't cry here - come on, let me be in peace!

"I still have a match to go, I'm a professional tennis player and I've got to get ready."

Alexander Bublik could face world no 1 Jannik Sinner in the quarter-final

The Kazakhstani now turns his attention to the quarter-final, where he could face world No. 1 Jannik Sinner - and he will have every chance of beating him if he keeps up the level from Monday’s victory.

Sinner plays world No. 15 Andrey Rublev in a difficult challenge later on Monday evening.

Despite his victory, Bublik had previously gone on record to say he "doesn't know" how to beat Draper, adding that he was "insane".

The world No. 62 clearly figured it out.

Draper’s loss is compounded by Cameron Norrie’s defeat to Novak Djokovic earlier in the day, meaning there is no British representation in the tournament.

However, the world No. 5 can be proud of a solid Roland Garros campaign, stopped by Bublik who was simply in formidable form.
