The 23-year-old overcame Joao Fonseca at Roland Garros on Saturday

Jack Draper has got no problem with the French Open crowd cheering on his opponents after he overcame Joao Fonseca at the Grand Slam on Saturday.

The Briton is chasing the first major of his career and produced a fine performance to secure a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 victory at Roland Garros.

It means Draper will now advance to week two of the tournament, with the 23-year-old continuing to pose a threat.

On Saturday, fans at the Court Suzanne Lenglen cheered on Fonseca. This is due to Draper being British, while he also defeated home favourite Gael Monfils earlier in the week.

But while Draper doesn't always have their support, there's something the tennis star is unfazed about.

"It's not like anyone is against me, this is entertainment," he stated.

"It's two guys competing against each other. If you are here and you are Brazilian, you're supporting Joao or if you are French and supporting a French player, that's not against me, you want your player to win and that's fine.

"I don't think it is bad at all to have a rowdy atmosphere, that's what I play for."

Draper also showed class by hailing Fonseca and tipping the 18-year-old for a bright future in the coming years ahead.

"I knew it was going to be a really tough match, Joao has caught the attention of everyone on tour, the players, the fans," he stated.

"Today my experience came through, I don't think he has played as many Grand Slams as I have but he has got an unbelievably bright future so all the best to him.

"I played good, the first set was really key.

"I got on top of him and used my forehand really well. Mentally it was a good performance from me today.

"Happy to be in the second week here today and hopefully more to come.

"My first two rounds I played at night. Playing against Gael the other night, I didn't think I could hit the ball past him.

"It was so cold and I couldn't really do much but today the ball was getting up more and the faster conditions definitely suit me. Either way I will be ready for my next round."

Meanwhile, in other French Open news, Jannik Sinner's dream of Grand Slam glory remains alive after he cruised to victory over Jiri Lehecka.

Sinner, who has already won the Australian Open (twice) and US Open throughout his career, dropped just three games as he clinched a 6-0, 6-12, 6-2 win.

Speaking after his victory, the No 1 seed said: "After today I don't think there's much I can improve but every opponent is different.
