Emma Raducanu flew out of the traps in the second round of the US Open with a resounding victory over Janice Tjen

Emma Raducanu delivered a commanding performance at the US Open, dispatching Janice Tjen 6-2 6-1 in exactly 60 minutes on Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The 2021 champion's ruthless display marked her quickest Grand Slam victory to date.

The British number one dominated from start to finish against the Indonesian qualifier, who is ranked 149th in the world.

Raducanu's clinical efficiency saw her drop just three games throughout the entire match.

This emphatic second-round triumph follows her opening victory against Ena Shibahara, which had taken 62 minutes.

The 22-year-old has now shaved two minutes off that time, setting a new personal benchmark for speed at a major tournament.

Speaking after her win, the interviewer called her 'merciless', and it is hard to disagree with that take.

After taking her 21st win of 2025, she said: "I'm very pleased with how I played today. I had to wait two days to play this second round match so that kind of breaks the rhythm a little bit.

"I knew I was playing Janice [Tjen], who is a super dangerous opponent and she was playing extremely well coming into this.

"I knew she would easily put away any ball I put mid-court that wasn't necessarily good enough, so I'm really pleased with how I performed today."

Raducanu seized control immediately, securing an early break to establish a 3-0 advantage in the opening set.

Despite facing three break points in the third game, she held firm and maintained her momentum.

Her serving proved particularly impressive throughout the contest, firing eight aces and winning 76 per cent of points behind her first delivery.

The former champion secured another break to claim the first set 6-2.

The second set saw even greater dominance as Raducanu stormed to a 5-0 lead.

Though Tjen managed to claim one game, it merely delayed the inevitable as Raducanu closed out the match with authority.

The victory represents Raducanu's fastest completion of a Grand Slam match, surpassing her previous record set just days earlier in New York.

Having faced two qualifiers in succession, with Shibahara ranked 128th and Tjen 149th globally, more challenging opponents await.

The 2021 US Open winner could encounter ninth seed Elena Rybakina in the third round, provided the 2022 Wimbledon champion overcomes Czech qualifier Tereza Valentova in her second-round match.

Such a meeting would mark a significant step up in competition for Raducanu as she continues her campaign at Flushing Meadows.
