The 22-year-old produced a sensational display on Sunday night to win the sixth Grand Slam title of his career

Carlos Alcaraz has opened up on the 'bad thing about tennis' after overcoming Jannik Sinner to secure US Open glory in New York on Sunday night.

The 22-year-old went into their showdown at the Arthur Ashe Stadium hoping to get revenge on his nemesis, who beat him in the final of Wimbledon earlier this summer.

And Alcaraz was close to flawless as he claimed the second US Open title of his career, with the Spaniard winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to secure glory.

It was a stunning display from the tennis star, who has now become the new world No 1 following his victory in America.

But while Alcaraz was delighted, he admitted that he'll have no time to really soak up the achievement due to the demanding tennis schedule, admitting that's the 'bad thing' about the sport.

"Bad thing about tennis, it is. I mean, it's not too many things, too many bad things, you know, but in tennis," he said.

"But one of those is you win a tournament, and right after that, you have to be focused on the next one.

"So what I learned mostly this year is about to take moments of every tournament, every experience that you're living, and enjoy.

"And enjoy with my team, with my family, with the people you have around."

Alcaraz was actually the slight underdog against Sinner prior to the match taking place.

Sinner had won the last three majors on hard courts, a run that stretched back to the 2024 Australian Open.

He had also defended that title at the start of the year and won the US Open last September, too.

But there was nothing the 24-year-old could do about Alcaraz on Sunday, with Sinner second best throughout the showdown.

Tim Henman, speaking on Sky Sports, was blown away by Alcaraz and his performance - labelling it a 'ball-striking masterclass'.

He said: "[It was a] ball-striking masterclass.

"I've never seen Alcaraz serve like that. You think about the great servers in the game, and I now have to put Alcaraz in that category.

"Against one of the great returners (Sinner), Alcaraz's serve was absolutely phenomenal. He was able to hit his spots with such pace and consistency.

"He gave Sinner so few opportunities to get into those service games, and it gave Alcaraz the opportunity to play with even more freedom, unleashing.

"You can see the joy of that performance. It was complete."

Martina Navratilova added: "Alcaraz just brings his best when it matters the best.

"I think he doesn't feel the pressure agasint Sinner because he knows he has to play well and if he loses, it's okay.

"Carlos has just got a slightly bigger game than Jannik, and when it cooks he is practically unbeatable.

"The numbers don't lie, Alcaraz was better across the board."
