The Belarusian exited the tournament after losing 10 games in a row

Aryna Sabalenka admitted she "just wants to quit tennis" after losing in the French Open quarter-final to Diana Shnaider.

In a seismic upset, the world No1 lost 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 before storming off the court.

Speaking afterwards, Sabalenka said: "No thoughts, no emotions. I just want to quit tennis right now. We'll see in few days. Hopefully I'll get back on track mentally."

The loss is only the second occasion in her last 14 Grand Slams that she has failed to make it to at least the semi-finals.

Sabalenka continued: "I don't know when was the last time that happened to me that I lost 10 games in a row.

"I guess mentally I got into a very deep, deep, dark hole over there, and I just couldn't get back mentally on track.

"This is something that I actually have to step back and try to find a solution, because I just am so tired of losing some matches not in the best way, just because I was overemotional."

When questioned about how she could get over the loss, she said: "You know those rooms where you just go in, and you smash everything.

"Probably I will spend a whole day tomorrow over there destroying stuff. Maybe it will help, maybe not."

Sabalenka's loss means no player remaining in the women's tournament has ever reached a Grand Slam final.

Shnaider said she was "speechless" after the biggest victory of her career.

The world No.25 said: "(I'm) Super happy. Obviously, today, tough conditions with the wind.

"Obviously, the first time playing in an arena - super nervous. So definitely a lot of nerves.

"The first set was trying to adjust to her game, trying to figure out how to play.

"I feel like I was trying to focus point by point. Not thinking about the score. She is the world No.1, so I just trying to do my best. I just had to fight for every point."

She continued: "Definitely a super special win. I feel like in the third set I finally found my rhythm and how to play and where to be a bit more.
