John McDonald may have wanted the world to swallow him up after his error on Tuesday at the World Darts Championship.

The World Darts Championship Master of ceremonies, John McDonald, had to apologise on stage on Tuesday afternoon after announcing the wrong player for their walk-out moment.

Keegan Brown was getting ready to face Boris Krcmar with the former first out to the oche.

While waiting to be announced, Brown was seen smiling and interacting with the crowd around him before McDonald started to introduce the darts star.

But it soon became clear that McDonald had not gotten the memo that Brown would be first out.

McDonald announced the darts player as "Croatia's World Cup star" before shouting out "Boris Krcmar".

Brown's beaming smile soon disappeared and he looked perplexed by the case of mistaken identity.

The 31-year-old stared blankly towards the stage before turning around and appearing to ask what was going on.

When the music started - which wasn't Brown's usual walk-on song - the Englishman decided to brush off the gaffe and make his way to the stage with his smile soon returning.

McDonald was seen apologising profusely to Brown on stage and the pair were able to laugh it off before hugging it out.

But McDonald won't get a chance to right his wrongs later this tournament after Brown suffered defeat to Krcmar.

The Croatian darts star has an accomplished career in soft tips darts, winning hundreds of events.

But this is the first time Krcmar has managed to make it past the first round of the PDC World Championship and is hoping he can make a run in the tournament.

"I know if I play my game I can beat anybody. Today I played really good, I felt comfortable and I played my game," he said.

"I controlled the first set but missed set darts. I just said 'Boris, just play your game. You have everything, just play and I can win.'"

He added: "In soft tip I win everything.
