The Jamaican still holds three world records

Usain Bolt has admitted that everyday tasks are now more challenging than they used to be.

The Jamaican sprinting legend, who retired in 2017, is still regarded as the fastest man to ever step on a track.

But a serious Achilles injury has affected his fitness levels and even simple movements leave him struggling.

He said: "I mostly do gym workouts [now], I’m not a fan, but I think now that I’ve been out for a while, I have to actually start running.

"Because when I walk upstairs, I get out of breath.

"I think when I start working on it fully again, I will probably have to do some laps just to get my breathing right.”

Bolt, 39, still holds three world records despite being out of the sport for eight years.

His 9.58-second 100m sprint remains untouched, along with his 200m and 4x100m relay times.

No athlete has come close to surpassing them, despite advances in training methods and technology. When asked why the men’s field has struggled to match his speed, Bolt was clear.

He said: "We’re just more talented. That’s all I’m saying. Of course, it shows when it comes to the men. You can see the women are different.

"They’re running faster times and faster times. So it shows – it has to be the talent.”

Bolt admitted he largely stopped following athletics after retirement. However, he did travel to Tokyo this year to watch Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Oblique Seville claim gold at the World Athletics Championships.

Life away from the track has shifted his priorities, particularly with three young children at home.
