The Kansas City Chiefs have made it clear they're ready for whatever Travis Kelce decides about his future in the NFL.
With his contract set to expire in just two weeks ahead of the March 11 league year deadline, general manager Brett Veach confirmed at the NFL Combine that the franchise has mapped out plans for both possibilities.
"We've kind of prepared for either scenario," Veach said. "We're trying to position ourselves that either way. We have a plan moving forward."
The 36-year-old tight end, who has spent 13 seasons with Kansas City, faces a pivotal decision as free agency looms.

Veach has been keen to stress that conversations with Kelce and his representatives have been going well, with head coach Andy Reid also reporting positive engagement.
"Travis is the best - he's an icon and hopefully he comes back," Veach said. "We'll continue to have positive dialogue and see what it ends."
The GM was quick to point out that this situation is far from ordinary.
"It's not your typical — hey, 27-year-old first time in free agency," Veach remarked. "Travis has done everything, he's accomplished everything."
It's a delicate balancing act for the Chiefs, who recognise they're dealing with a franchise legend rather than a standard contract negotiation.
Travis Kelce is currently mulling over NFL retirement | GETTYDespite the uncertainty, there are encouraging signs that Kelce is leaning towards lacing up his boots for another season in Kansas City.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero shared his thoughts on the Rich Eisen Show, suggesting things are moving in a positive direction.
"It seems like this is trending toward Travis coming back and playing for Kansas City, but nothing is done until it's done," Pelissero said. "Obviously, Travis has a lot going on in his life outside of football and decisions to make."
Pelissero acknowledged that while Kelce may have lost some of his explosive speed, he remains a capable NFL tight end.
Kelce's decision is made all the more complicated by his personal life, with the three-time Super Bowl champion set to marry pop superstar Taylor Swift later this year.
