Sports star spotted in Australia ahead of new I'm A Celebrity series

The new series of I'm a Celeb, which has been running since 2002, is due to hit screens on November 19.

And Dettori has now jetted out to Australia a fortnight before it begins, with watching the Melbourne Cup his immediate priority.

Taking to social media on Sunday, he said: “Hi everyone, I am here in California at the moment.

""I will get on the plane after racing, I’m coming to Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup.

"Unfortunately, this year I’m suspended, so I can’t ride but I will support the Melbourne Cup carnival for the weeks, see some old friends riding and have a smashing time at the racing.

"Hopefully we see some good winners, so make sure you come and see us."

After Detorri attends the horse racing event, he's then set to take part in the show.

​The 52-year-old is, per the Daily Star, due to jet out from Melbourne to Brisbane to meet up with ITV executives.

While ITV are yet to confirm their line-up, Dettori is free to take part with his next horse racing event not until Boxing Day.

Detorri is due to be the latest sports star to experience life in the Australian jungle.

Harry Redknapp was arguably the best sporting participant and won the show while competing in 2018.

Jimmy Bullard, who played football for the likes of Hull, Fulham and Wigan, proved to be good comedy value during his own stint.

John Fashanu and Phil Tuffnel struck up a good relationship while appearing on the programme in 2003.

And Fatima Whitbread impressed viewers with her discipline upon featuring 12 years ago.

Meanwhile, GB News presenter Nigel Farage has been tipped to appear on the show this year.

He recently responded to speculation by admitting he was considering it in order to 'connect' with a younger audience.

He said: "Several times since 2016 I've had I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! from ITV saying to me 'come into the jungle'.

"And they've always offered me really quite substantial sums of money to do so, and I have always thought 'no, it's probably not the right thing for me to do'."

He continued: "Well, you've got about 10 million young people who watch that programme.

"These are people who don't really watch the news or read newspapers, but they still care about the country they live in and their futures.

"And actually, in many ways, the futures of young people in Britain had been blighted.

"They haven't got the same opportunities that their parents and grandparents had and they'd love to look for solutions.
