Adam Sandler has teased fans of a possible sequel being in the works for the cult classic Happy Gilmore film.

Happy Gilmore 2 is reportedly in the works with sports broadcaster Dan Patrick revealing he has spoken with Adam Sandler about his role in the sequel.

The original movie, which aired in 1996, proved to be a cult classic among golf and movie fans and appears to be the latest film to get the go-ahead for a sequel.

Sandler played an unruly hockey player who found out he had a talent for golf with an unusual swing that has since been tried and tested by every golfer at one stage in their life.

Christopher McDonald, who played the villainous Shooter McGavin in the original film, first teased fans that a script had already been written for the sequel.

“I saw Adam [Sandler] about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,’” McDonald said earlier this month.

“I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that?’ and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.

“Maybe you should cut that out [of this audio] because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that, and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, dammit!”

American sports commentator Patrick, who regularly features in Sandler films, has added to the noise around a Happy Gilmore sequel.

The 66-year-old revealed on his show that he reached out to Sandler to find out more on the Happy Gilmore 2 rumours.

He revealed his text message read: "Sandman, just trying to finalise my schedule for the upcoming year. How much time should I take off for the sequel to Happy Gilmore?"

Sandler is said to have replied: "A few days. But I'll let you know when there's a script. Still figuring a lot out."

Patrick answered that he was 'kidding', to which Sander replied: "You're in it bro. You play you."

The sports commentator added: "He knows I don't like playing me in a movie. I've kind of mastered that.

"I like playing a villain or a love interest."

One person who sadly won't feature in a sequel if it is made is the late Carl Weathers.

The sports star-turned-actor played Gilmore's coach, Derick 'Chubbs' Peterson, in the original film and passed away in February.

Sandler posted a touching tribute to Weathers on social media along with photos of the pair together.

“A true great man,” Sandler wrote on X.
