The Englishman ended his PGA Tour drought with a dramatic victory over J.J. Spaun

Justin Rose captured his twelfth PGA Tour victory at TPC Southwind in Memphis, defeating J.J. Spaun in a thrilling three-hole playoff to secure the FedEx St. Jude Championship title.

The Englishman's triumph marked his first tournament win since the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in early 2023, ending a drought of nearly thirty months.

The victory earned Rose £2.8 million from the tournament's £15.7 million prize pool, whilst runner-up Spaun collected £1.7 million.

The triumph also secured Rose 2,000 FedExCup points, elevating him into the top five of the standings and guaranteeing his participation in both the BMW Championship and the season-ending Tour Championship.

The 44-year-old's clutch putting proved decisive as he sank an 11-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole whilst Spaun's 7-foot attempt drifted wide.

Both players had finished regulation play tied at 16-under-par, necessitating the sudden-death format after matching scores through 72 holes.

The playoff commenced with both competitors making birdies on the first extra hole, electrifying the Memphis crowd.

Rose and Spaun matched each other again on the second playoff hole, each rolling in clutch birdie putts to extend the contest.

Officials relocated the pin position on the 18th green for the third playoff hole to heighten the drama. Rose delivered under pressure, converting his birdie opportunity from 11 feet.

The 2025 U.S. Open champion Spaun, who had carded a final-round 65 to force the playoff, watched his 7-foot birdie attempt slide past the cup, handing victory to his English rival.

Rose's final round began poorly with an opening-hole bogey, but the veteran responded with exceptional scoring on the inward nine.

He produced four consecutive birdies from the 14th through 17th holes, sinking putts ranging from 6 to 23 feet to surge into contention.

The 67 in Sunday's final round proved sufficient to match Spaun's total and force the playoff.

Tommy Fleetwood, who began the day leading at 14-under, faltered with a bogey at the 17th and couldn't convert a birdie attempt on the final hole, settling for a share of third place alongside world number one Scottie Scheffler at 15-under.

Rose's winning equipment included a Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond driver, TaylorMade fairway woods, and a combination of Titleist and Miura irons.

His trusted Scotty Cameron Phantom T-5 Tour Prototype putter proved instrumental in the playoff victory, particularly for the decisive 11-foot birdie on the final hole.
