A former Chelsea prospect was rushed to hospital after an alleged knife attack.

Yann Gueho, 31, was attacked with a knife in Choisy-le-Roi, south-east Paris, overnight on November 9.

Following the attack, police have charged a man with attempted murder.

Gueho suffered serious injuries in Paris earlier this month and remains in intensive care.

Gueho spent two years at Chelsea between 2009 and 2011.

He left Stamford Bridge at 17 and went on to have spells with French clubs Lille and Nantes.

The young prospect never made a professional career appearance.

He retired at 22 after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016.

Gueho was with a friend when he suffered “serious injuries”, the Athletic reports.

The Creteil public prosector’s office confirmed that a man has been charged with attempted murder and gang violence following the incident.

A woman was also charged with gang violence and has been placed under witness assistance status for attempted murder.

A judicial investigation officially opened on November 12.

His mother Anne-Marie said: "We are going through extremely difficult days.

"Yann had agreed to undergo a very heavy treatment for his condition, one that weakened him profoundly.

"In order not to pose any danger to himself or to others, he had accepted living with barely 10 per cent of his physical capacity.

"It was heartbreaking for him, considering everything he had been able to do before. This situation made him particularly vulnerable.

"Today, we trust the justice system to understand how such a tragedy could have happened and to ensure that those responsible are fully held accountable.”

Gueho had once been tipped as a future Ballon d’Or winner and even described as better than Mbappé.

Alexandre Monnier, a former reserve coach at Paris FC told the Atheletic: "What I can say is that in his last moments on the pitch playing football, he hadn’t lost anything.

"It was a pleasure to see him touch the ball. At the moment he accelerates, you can see Messi, you can see Neymar, you can see Mbappe."

Damien Dussaut, who was with Yann at Clairefontaine, the national training centre for the most talented young players in the Ile-de-France region, told the publication: "I can only say that you had to see to understand.

"Because it’s hard when you say to people that Yann Gueho is a better talent than (Kylian) Mbappe, than (Ousmane) Dembele

"Everyone says, ‘You’re crazy, he doesn’t play football’. But I say, ‘Guys, you had to see what talent he had, he could win the game alone.’ He was like a magician.”
