Fans could pay nearly £10,000 if England were to progress to the final

Football fans hoping to attend the 2026 World Cup are in for a massive shock.

Leaked ticket prices show the tournament will be the most expensive in history, with costs that rival NFL Super Bowl prices.

The final at MetLife Stadium will see premium seats priced at an eye-watering £4,740, while even the cheapest tickets start at £1,510.

It's a far cry from what organisers promised back in 2018, when they suggested final tickets would range from £95 to £1,154.

Fifa had initially announced tickets would start from £45 but kept quiet about the full pricing structure until now.

Looking at the full breakdown, the pricing structure has four categories across all stages. Group stage matches range from £45 for Category 4 tickets up to £420 for the best seats, though prices spike dramatically when host nations play - reaching £1,768 for America's opener in Los Angeles.

The costs climb steadily through the knockout rounds. Round of 32 tickets go up to £495, while the round of 16 reaches £663. Quarter-finals see another jump to £1,258 for top seats.

Semi-final prices hit £2,069 for Category 1 tickets, with the cheapest option still £312. But it's the final that really breaks the bank - Category 1 seats cost £4,740, Category 2 runs £3,520, Category 3 is £2,069, and even Category 4 starts at £1,510.

The numbers are truly staggering in comparison to previous tournaments.

Adjusted for inflation, the most expensive group stage tickets at past World Cups never exceeded £540.

Now fans are looking at prices up to £2,069 for premium group matches.

The 2026 final will also cost four times more than the priciest tickets at any previous World Cup. Even the recent Euro 2024 final's premium seats were just £1,612 - and most upper deck seats at the 2026 final will cost more than that.

The tournament's prices are astronomical compared to major football events. Champions League final tickets top out at £841, while most Premier League clubs charge less than £100 for their best seats.

England fans planning to follow the Three Lions through the knockout stages face a potential bill exceeding £9,000 for Category 1 tickets alone.

Even those opting for the cheapest Category 4 seats would need to fork out more than £2,200 to watch every match from the round of 32 to the final.

There's another worry for travelling supporters too: Fifa vice-president Victor Montagliani has suggested some matches might kick off after midnight to avoid the scorching summer heat across North America.

He admitted that, while they're working with European broadcasters to find suitable times, not every match will have perfect scheduling.
