Troy Deeney has spoken for the first time since he was sacked by Forest Green Rovers.

Troy Deeney has lashed out at Forest Green Rovers for lacking "class" in the manner in which he was sacked - just 29 days after taking the managerial position.

The former Premier League footballer joined Forest Green at the start of the season as a player-coach and then took charge of the League Two club on December 20.

But Deeney's short time at the helm of Forest Green proved to be a whirlwind with several poor results along with some controversial outbursts in the media.

The 35-year-old was reprimanded and forced to apologise earlier this week for his explosive rant about his squad, stating there were "too many babies" at the club.

He was then slapped with a four-match touchline ban for misconduct when he was shown a red card during Forest Green's defeat to Swindon last month.

Just hours after the charge and Deeney was out of a job.

Forest Green owner Dale Vince issued a short statement on the club's website confirming Deeney's dismissal.

Deeney has revealed that he's still yet to speak to Vince officially having been made aware of his sacking by the club's director of football Allan Steele.

The former Watford star has launched a stinging attack on the struggling League Two outfit for the way he was dismissed and feels he was being "used".

“They told me it was because of results but I have trouble believing that," he told The Sun.

“I feel to a certain extent I have been used for my contacts and pulling power.

“We had brought in five players in this window, most of whom would not have dropped down to the bottom of League Two if it wasn’t for me — including Maxi Oyedele, on loan from Manchester United.

“Four weeks ago, I was the solution. Now I’m told I’m the problem.

“The club knew the type of character I was, someone that had been in the dressing room and knew changes needed to be made if the club was going to grow and gain improved results on the pitch.

“When you’re taking over a club in the middle of a season and it is rock bottom of the league you can’t take your time and go easy.

"Hard words needed to be spoken and I felt that we were about to turn a corner with results.

“Was I the problem? Or is it the club that is about to appoint its ninth manager in less than three years?

“I was expected to turn around the fortunes of a failing club in less than a month. I hadn’t even received my first payslip as a manager when they told me they were getting rid of me.”
