Tottenham had led PSG twice before being beaten 5-3 in a pulsating encounter at the Parc des Princes

Tottenham fell to their maiden Champions League loss of the campaign in Paris, squandering the advantage on two occasions during Thomas Frank's inaugural European fixture as manager.

The north London club arrived at Parc des Princes seeking redemption following their weekend humiliation against Arsenal, displaying considerably more resolve and determination in the French capital.

Frank implemented multiple alterations to his starting eleven, yet his team ultimately succumbed to the reigning European champions in an enthralling encounter.

Despite demonstrating marked improvement for much of the contest, defensive frailties and crucial errors enabled PSG to secure a vital triumph following their recent setback against Bayern Munich.

Richarlison broke the deadlock in the 35th minute, nodding in from close quarters following excellent build-up play involving Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray down the left flank.

The Brazilian's header appeared to reward Tottenham's positive approach and superior play during the opening period.

However, the visitors' advantage proved short-lived. PSG struck back moments before the interval when Vitinha unleashed a magnificent right-footed effort that soared beyond goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario via the crossbar.

The Portuguese midfielder's thunderous strike arrived after Tottenham were caught off-guard by a short corner routine, ensuring the teams entered the break on level terms.

The second period commenced with Kolo Muani finding the net against his parent club five minutes after the restart.

Pedro Porro's deep corner was kept alive through Richarlison and Gray's efforts, allowing the striker to fire home and restore Tottenham's advantage.

PSG's response proved devastating. Within ninety seconds, Vitinha struck again with an exquisite left-footed effort to draw level at 2-2.

The momentum shifted decisively when Pape Matar Sarr surrendered possession, enabling Fabian Ruiz to give the hosts their first lead just before the hour mark.

Willian Pacho compounded Tottenham's misery, capitalising on defensive disarray to make it 4-2.

Kolo Muani offered renewed optimism with an emphatic strike in the 72nd minute, completing his brace after Rodrigo Bentancur dispossessed Vitinha.

The Frenchman's clinical finish reduced the deficit to 4-3, momentarily suggesting an improbable comeback might materialise.

Those aspirations were swiftly extinguished. Cristian Romero conceded a penalty through a sliding handball, presenting Vitinha with the opportunity to complete his treble from the spot.

The midfielder duly converted from twelve yards, securing both his hat-trick and PSG's victory.

The drama concluded in stoppage time when substitute Lucas Hernandez saw red for a flagrant elbow on Xavi Simons, reducing the hosts to ten men.
