Tottenham 0-3 Nottingham Forest: Spurs staring down into the abyss after hapless defeat

Nottingham Forest delivered a crushing blow to Tottenham's survival hopes with a comprehensive 3-0 triumph at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this afternoon.

Igor Jesus, Morgan Gibbs-White and Taiwo Awoniyi all found the net as the visitors secured a massive three points in this relegation six-pointer.

The result sees Forest climb to 16th place, leapfrogging their hosts and opening up a three-point gap to the bottom three.

Spurs, meanwhile, have dropped to 17th and now sit just a single point above the relegation zone following West Ham's defeat at Aston Villa earlier in the day.

Igor Tudor's position as interim boss now looks untenable after this dismal showing.

The Croatian has lost five of his seven matches in charge, and Sunday's defeat could prove the most damaging of all.

It's a staggering collapse for Spurs, who haven't tasted victory in the Premier League since 28 December.

That's 13 top-flight games without a win, with just two victories in their last 22 league outings.

Tudor's side couldn't even manage a shot on target until they were already three goals down in what was billed as the biggest match of their season – perhaps even their recent history.

There was a painful twist for the home supporters as Gibbs-White netted the crucial second goal – Spurs had desperately tried to sign the England midfielder last summer in a saga that saw Forest threaten legal action.

The Forest captain was left completely unmarked in the box, and his effort from Callum Hudson-Odoi's cutback slipped through Guglielmo Vicario's hands.

The goalkeeper, who is due to undergo hernia surgery next week, was booed by his own fans after Awoniyi's late third sparked a mass exodus from the stadium.

Supporters who had lined the High Road before kick-off to welcome the team bus with genuine optimism were left streaming for the exits in frustration.

For Vitor Pereira, this victory couldn't have come at a better time – it's his first Premier League win since taking charge at the City Ground in February.

Forest now have breathing room with a three-point cushion above West Ham, and they're riding high after their recent Europa League progress too.

These two clubs look to be heading in completely opposite directions.

Tottenham have just seven games remaining to secure their top-flight status, and the pressure is mounting with every passing week.

The away fans celebrated wildly at full-time while the home end sat largely empty – a stark illustration of where both sides currently stand.
