The England boss will see his contract expire after the World Cup next year

Thomas Tuchel has signalled his willingness to remain as England manager beyond the 2026 World Cup, revealing during Friday's squad announcement that he finds the position "a lot of fun".

The German tactician, who unveiled his 25-man selection for matches against Serbia and Albania at Wembley, responded positively when questioned about extending his tenure past next summer's tournament.

"Yes there is," Tuchel stated when asked if part of him wished to continue.

"It's a lot of fun, especially since we are on track in the last two camps."

Whilst emphasising no formal announcement exists presently, the 52-year-old expressed satisfaction with his current situation and suggested the Football Association shares his contentment.

Tuchel's existing arrangement with the FA runs for 18 months, commencing in January 2025 and concluding after the 2026 World Cup across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager inherited the position from Gareth Southgate with explicit instructions to deliver England's first major trophy since 1966.

England secured their place at the expanded tournament last month, becoming the first European side to guarantee qualification.

The Three Lions have dominated their qualifying campaign, winning all six matches without conceding whilst maintaining their perfect record.

With merely two international windows remaining before the World Cup - one in March following next week's fixtures - Tuchel faces limited preparation time before selecting his tournament squad.

The England boss elaborated on his positive mindset during the Wembley press conference, stating: "I am in a good place mentally because I love the team, I love the support from the federation and I love the direction where it's heading."

Tuchel stressed that contractual considerations remain secondary to immediate objectives. "I haven't thought so much about my contract but we have time for that," he remarked.

The German emphasised maintaining focus on the present, declaring: "The most important thing is to stay focused now for the next camp."

He acknowledged the need for continued performance, noting: "I have to prove myself again from Monday with the team so the rest will take care of itself."

Tuchel's enthusiasm for the England position emerged previously during a June interview with talkSPORT, where he confirmed his inclination to continue beyond the World Cup.

"If you ask me today, yes. I feel that I'm in the right place and enjoy where I am," he stated at that time, highlighting his appreciation for the fresh challenge and new environment.

The manager praised the trust and respect received from federation personnel whilst expressing affection for the player group and determination to advance their development.

England face Serbia and Albania in their final World Cup qualifiers next week, having already secured passage to the tournament with their flawless qualifying campaign intact.
