The Danish coach had been the club's top pick to succeed Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the appointment of Thomas Frank as their new manager on a contract running until 2028.

The 51-year-old Danish coach arrives from Brentford to replace Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed last Friday despite delivering Europa League glory in May.

Postecoglou ended the club's 17-year trophy drought by defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final.

However, a dismal Premier League campaign that saw Spurs finish 17th with just 38 points sealed his fate.

The club stated they could not "base our decision on emotions aligned to this triumph" when announcing Postecoglou's departure.

Frank's appointment was facilitated by a £10m release clause in his Brentford contract.

The appointment has been driven by Tottenham's technical director Johan Lange, who shares a long-standing relationship with his Danish compatriot.

Lange gave Frank his first full-time position in football as a youth coach at B93 in 2004.

The pair reunited at Lyngby, where Frank caught the attention of the Danish Football Association.

He subsequently coached their under-16s, under-17s and under-19s teams.

Frank secured his first senior management role at Brondby in 2013, spending almost three seasons there.

He then joined Brentford as assistant to Dean Smith before succeeding him as manager in October 2018.

Tottenham were impressed by Frank's achievements at Brentford, where he secured promotion via the Championship playoffs in 2021.

He established the Bees in the Premier League with finishes of 13th, ninth, 16th and 10th despite operating with one of the division's smallest budgets.

Frank earned praise from elite managers, with Pep Guardiola predicting last September that he would join a top club.

"It is just a question of time," said Manchester City's manager.

"I'm good in a few things, one of which is reading when the manager is good. It is going to happen. Thomas is one of the best."

Frank will be joined at Tottenham by several members of his Brentford coaching staff.

Frank's preference for a back three and wing-backs could suit Tottenham's current full-backs Pedro Porro, Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence.

The Danish manager faces a significant challenge, having never won silverware or managed in European competition beyond Europa League qualifying stages.
