Roman Kemp is being targeted by Sky Sports as part of a major shake-up at the broadcaster

Sky Sports has entered negotiations with television presenter Roman Kemp regarding a position within their football coverage operations.

The broadcaster is exploring various options for the 32-year-old presenter as part of efforts to capture younger viewership.

One proposal under consideration involves Kemp presenting a new programme that would broadcast simultaneously across Sky Sports News, Sky Sports Main Event and the Premier League channels.

The discussions remain ongoing ahead of the upcoming football season.

Sky executives have maintained discretion about the negotiations.

The potential appointment forms part of the broadcaster's strategic initiative to broaden its audience appeal.

Kemp, son of Spandau Ballet's Martin Kemp, currently presents on the BBC's One Show.

The Arsenal supporter was previously linked with a Match of the Day position when Gary Lineker's departure plans emerged last year.

The presenter commands significant online influence and resonates particularly with younger demographics.

His popularity stems from an extended tenure hosting Capital FM's Breakfast Show.

This potential appointment arrives amidst substantial changes at Sky Sports News.

The broadcaster recently implemented a major redundancy programme affecting seven staff members, marking a significant restructuring of operations.

Rob Wotton concluded his 27-year tenure at Sky Sports News with an emotional farewell during Monday's broadcast.

"It's been an absolute pleasure," Wotton said. "I came here in my 20s and I thought I was only coming for a couple of weeks."

The veteran presenter, who joined the channel in 1998, struggled to contain his emotions whilst addressing viewers.

"And look, they haven't been able to get rid of me. I keep turning up, maybe one day they'll pay me!" he added during his final appearance.

Wotton's departure forms part of a broader restructuring that has impacted seven positions at the sports broadcaster.

Senior reporter Melissa Reddy departed after three years covering Premier League stories, particularly Liverpool and both Manchester clubs.

Fellow presenters Teddy Draper and Jasper Taylor, with 18 and 11 years respectively at the broadcaster, also left alongside senior reporters Jeremy Langdon and Fadumo Olow.

The Football Show, presented by Wotton and reviewing weekend matches, has been cancelled for next season.

Sky maintains the changes aim at "making us more agile and better equipped to serve audiences" rather than primarily cutting costs.

The restructuring follows a consultation period initiated at the month's beginning, representing significant operational changes as the sports news channel adapts its staffing model.
