Sheffield Wednesday have been charged by the Football League (EFL) with “multiple breaches” of their regulations after failing to pay staff again - which could result in the club facing sanctions.
The charges relate to Thai businessman Dejphon Chansiri and the club's failure to pay players’ wages in full during March and May 2025.
The EFL can impose a range of sanctions, such as points deductions, financial penalties, transfer embargoes, or even disqualification.
Sheffield Wednesday have 14 days to respond to the EFL’s charges.

Additionally, it has been reported that the non-football staff, such as the cleaners, kitchen and shop staff, have also failed to receive payment from the club.
The EFL released a full statement on their website, reading: “Sheffield Wednesday Football Club has been charged with multiple breaches of EFL Regulations relating to payment obligations.
“The owner of Sheffield Wednesday, Dejphon Chansiri, has also been charged with causing the Club to be in breach of EFL Regulations despite his commitment to fund the cash requirements of the Club.”
The statement continued: “All charges relate to both the Ultimate Beneficial Owner and the Club failing to meet their obligations to pay players’ wages on time and in full in March and May 2025.
“The Club and Mr Chansiri have 14 days to respond to the charges.”

“Mr Chansiri sincerely apologises to all players, coaches and staff affected and everyone connected with the club.”
Dejphon Chansiri acquired Sheffield Wednesday for an estimated £150million in 2015, but has since driven the finances into the ground and has faced heavy criticism and protest from loyal supporters.
Sky Sports commentator and pundit Don Goodman spoke to Football League World prior to the statement from the EFL, expressing his concern for the situation.
"It's really concerning for Sheffield Wednesday fans, players and staff members.
"They are very close to being hit with an EFL embargo and it could be up to three transfer windows, including this summer's.

"So, it's a very, very difficult situation.”
Many fans have taken to social media to share their feelings, and raise funds for the staff that have not been paid.
One fan wrote: “This is heartbreaking. Many staff at Sheffield Wednesday haven't been paid, and they need our help. Let's show our support and raise funds for those who keep the club going.”
TalkSPORT commentator Alan Biggs expressed his concern: “Sounds like nothing is off the table in view of EFL charges made against Sheffield Wednesday & Dejphon Chansiri, whose pride has gone before a huge fall. As others have said, while he deserves it, the club itself & supporters are victims.”
One fan spoke on BBC Radio to make their feelings known: “He [Chansiri] is ruining the livelihood of not only fans but hard-working, working-class people who are the heartbeat of the club.”
“It’s for the betterment of everybody. Just leave.”
