The Portuguese boss is still facing severe criticism despite his side's 2-0 victory over the weekend

Jamie Carragher has again slammed under-fire Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, believing his sacking is “inevitable” while giving a scathing prediction despite the Red Devils’ comfortable victory over Sunderland at the weekend.

The Portuguese has not enjoyed the start to the season that had been expected after a monster £230million outlay in the summer.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, who scored at the weekend, arrived to bolster their forward line, while Senne Lammens replaced Andre Onana in goal.

The Belgian shotstopper had a comfortable debut between the sticks on Saturday, keeping a clean sheet in what was Amorim’s 50th game in charge of the club.

And while Amorim oversaw a win on his landmark game in charge, pundits are under no illusion that the 40-year-old’s future remains in the balance.

Amorim has steered the Red Devils to just six Premier League victories in the last eight months - all of which have been against 10 men or a team that has been relegated or promoted.

Wayne Rooney went on record on his BBC podcast admitting he has “no faith” that Amorim will be able to turn the dire situation around, while Carragher previously described his tenure as "a disaster”.

And the former Liverpool defender has doubled down on his comments.

Speaking on the Overlap Fan Debate, Carragher gave a brutal prediction for the 40-year-old's future: “I don't like saying a manager should be sacked – it's disrespectful and it's a man's job – but I'm at that point where I do think Ruben Amorim's job is untenable.

“It's inevitable that this is going to happen before Christmas.

“His stats are unbelievable for a Manchester United manager; 50 games as Manchester United manager, he's only scored two more goals than he's conceded.”

Fellow pundit Paul Scholes, who has also been vocal in his displeasure over Amorim’s reign, added that he feels the writing is already on the wall for the former Sporting Lisbon boss.

Paul Scholes believes Ruben Amorim may have had 'a little bit too much time'

“I feel like with Ruben Amorim it's got to the point where we don't want to talk about sacking managers all the time and Manchester United do give managers enough time,” Scholes said.

“He'll never get booed by the fans and it wasn't until that Brentford game [3-1 defeat] where I thought, ‘He's getting a little bit too much time’ and it feels like it's only a matter of time before things come to an end.”

The former midfielder continued by insisting United had to “get something” from their next match, a trip to Anfield to play fierce rivals Liverpool.

They face the champions at the perfect time: Arne Slot’s side have lost three games on the bounce, including two in the Premier League, and despite the mammoth spending in the summer look a shadow of their former selves.

Scholes feels a sensible and more compact tactic could be the key to containing Liverpool and getting a point from the game.

Arsenal had recently been criticised for approaching the game similarly; however, he feels the Gunners' title challenge and United’s current mediocrity warrant different solutions.

“I’d be thinking about drawing the game and finding a way somehow to stop them from scoring,” Scholes continued. “That's a totally different mentality from Arsenal going to Liverpool, who are looking at winning the league.

“Manchester United are in such a rut, and I can't remember the last time they won a big game, or a game that meant a lot.

“This group of players are in such a bad rut that you have no confidence in them that they're going to get out of it. It's almost predictable that they'll go to Anfield and get beat.”
