The Red Devils manager was not happy with their performance

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim admitted his side missed a chance to take control of their season after being held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham.

United made a bright start and created several opportunities, but their failure to build on an early lead left the manager frustrated with both the performance and the result.

The Portuguese coach felt United lost their rhythm after going ahead and failed to keep the same intensity across the full 90 minutes.

After the game, he said: "We can do better but we are putting the effort so that is the most important to me.

"In some moments we did well, especially in the beginning of the game.

"After the goal, we were just thinking about the result.

"We were ok until the goal and then we were not smart in that moment.

"We have to think about the performance. I know what the feeling is of a player who has to win every match.

"We missed a penalty, we missed some chances and then we score and we had to defend that goal. We have to focus on our movements and play until the end.

"If you look at the beginning of the game, the draw is so disappointing but at the end they were in the best momentum when the game finished.

"We were a good team until our goal but then we forgot about our ideas because we wanted to win the football game so badly."

Fulham caused United a lot of issues from set pieces, something Amorim was forced to acknowledge following the game.

"We tried to press high but after a few times we pushed the ball to the side too soon," Amorim admitted.

"We wanted to press all of the time but sometimes we have to manage the game… In every game in the Premier League, you will always have situations in the corners."

Fulham ended a run of eight straight defeats to United with the draw, a fact that Fulham manager Marco Silva is very proud of.

After the game, he told BBC Sport: "I am proud of our players.

"Proud of our fans and our football club. Sometimes the face speaks more than the words."

Despite the points drop, Amorim remains optimistic about the season ahead as he reassured Sky Sports: "We just want to win games.

"The players know they are playing in a club where they need to be better. Today they worked really hard and all week in training. I am really confident that we are going to get many wins."
