Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has extraordinarily admitted that he sometimes wishes he would quit the club.
The Portuguese coach also went on to say that he sometimes 'hates his players' in an incredible press conference on Friday afternoon.
It comes just days after a shock exit at the Carabao Cup at the hands of League Two minnows Grimsby Town, who defeated the Red Devils on penalties.
The Mariners went two goals ahead at Blundell Park after calamitous errors from United goalkeeper Andre Onana before the visitors roped themselves back to 2-2 before full-time.
Ruben Amorim admitted that he sometimes 'hates' his players at Manchester United.
| ReutersSpeaking to the media ahead of United's match to Burnley on Saturday, Amorim said: "Sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years.
"Some times I love to be with my players, sometimes I don't want to be with them. So, again, I need to improve on that. It's going to be hard. But now I'm good with the next one."
Amorim went on to admit his love-hate relationship with his squad despite omitting those he did not deem good enough and spending over £200 million over the summer on new players.
He added: "I'm going to say that sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I love my players, sometimes I want to defend my players.
"This is my way of doing things and I'm going to be like that."
Amorim has had a miserable time since joining United as manager in November last year, winning just 16 games out of 45 - losing 17.
The latest of those defeats came in the Carabao Cup to Grimsby, while Amorim made astonishing claims following the result.
The 40-year-old appeared to suggest that he could quit after remarking: "Something needs to change and it won't be 22 players."
When asked to expand on his comments from Wednesday night, Amorim said: "I know that when I speak these things.
"Guys, to be really honest with you guys, every time that we have or have in the future one defeat like that, I'm going to be like that.
"I felt that in that moment I was so frustrated and annoyed. And I know, again, that you have a lot of experienced people talking about the way I should perform with the media, to be more constant, to be more calm. I'm not going to be like that."
Amorim's alarming comments come just a day before United's match against Burnley, which must now be deemed a must-win.
The former Sporting boss did end his press conference on a positive note, though, saying: "The good thing is that we now have the next game to put that level up."
