The FA are yet to make any final decision on who will be Gareth Southgate's permanent successor.

Roy Keane has challenged the FA to try everything to hire Pep Guardiola as the next England manager with a decision yet to be made.

Gareth Southgate left his role as England head coach after losing the Euro 2024 final in July with Lee Carsley eventually hired on an interim basis.

The 50-year-old earned plaudits during his first camp with the England senior squad, but pressure has mounted this month after the disappointing result against Greece.

Carsley will have one more camp before the FA reportedly makes a final decision ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifying group draw in December.

Thomas Tuchel has emerged as a potential option while Graham Potter and Eddie Howe also continue to be linked.

However, Guardiola feels the FA should try their luck in trying to lure Guardiola into the England job with the Manchester City boss out of contract next summer.

"Go after Pep, go for the best," Keane said on ITV.

"Pep's contract is up the summer.

"The FA have to go for the best guy, I don't know if finances will play a part in it.

"If Lee obviously rules himself, and he's not interested, and that seems to be the noises coming out, then the FA better get busy and get the right man."

Guardiola has not yet ruled out signing an extension with City, but left the door open for an approach from the FA.

“Leaving City? It’s not true, I haven’t decided yet," he said.

“And it is not even true that I will be the next England coach.

"If I had decided I would say it … I don’t know either, anything can happen.”

Carsley appears to have ruled himself out of the running for the England job though as he believes the FA should appoint a 'world class coach that's won trophies'.

"I've not really thought that much about it." he said.

"I know I keep saying the same thing, my remit was to do six games. I'm really happy with that privileged position that I'm in. Really enjoying it.

"I didn't enjoy it for the last two days. It was hard work. I'm just not used to losing with an England team. And I don't take losing very well.

"I think people are always going to try and put their chips on one side. I'm totally in the middle. My bosses have made it totally clear what they need from me.

"This job deserves a world class coach that's won trophies and been there and done it, and I'm still on the path to doing that."
