Roy Keane’s daughter, Caragh, has spoken candidly about her long battle with lupus, revealing how the autoimmune disease left her bed-bound for months and ultimately inspired her to launch a health-focused business.
The 29-year-old entrepreneur, who recently saw her gut-friendly cereal brand Superkeen rolled out in major supermarkets, described the debilitating symptoms that led to her diagnosis and how she turned a period of illness into a catalyst for change.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Caragh explained: “It was around five years ago. I started getting these symptoms, which ranged from really painful joints to hair loss and blistered skin.
“I thought it was because I was stressed at the time. I was teaching and I was thinking, ‘Oh, I'm just really tired.’ I was falling asleep while I was driving and things like that.

“I was thinking, ‘God, this is a bit bizarre,’ but I just thought it must be stress.”
Her condition quickly worsened.
“Until I just physically couldn't move and was essentially bed-bound for around three months,” she continued.
“So I wasn't able to teach. I was always quite sporty and loved being active, so it was a real shock when I just wasn’t able to do those things anymore.

“That kind of led me to start researching gut health and overall wellness. I hadn’t heard of lupus before being diagnosed. It was a real shock to hear that.”
Lupus occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue and organs.
Managing the condition typically requires medication, but Caragh began exploring lifestyle changes, focusing on diet and stress management as part of her recovery.

“A lot of the time it’s the overall lifestyle — diet, stress management, sleep — which everyone struggles with in different ways,” she said.
“For me, a big thing is managing my stress levels. I’m a natural overthinker, but it’s really taught me to look at things in my life.
“I just managed my diet as much as possible, eating real whole foods, nothing processed, and really getting that balance.
“There are really great medications that people rely on for lupus and autoimmune conditions, which are super beneficial. But I really did not want to rely on steroids and intense medication for the rest of my life.”
The daughter of Manchester United legend and Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane, Caragh says her family were unwavering in their support throughout her illness and business journey.
She and her father have since gone into business together under the Superkeen brand, something both describe as a rewarding experience filled with humour and pride.

“If that is off-kilter, we know about it! Like if there’s a delivery coming that he is not aware of, oh my, the poor Amazon delivery man!
“But he is great. You have your funny moments. It’s so good.”
Keane, known for his stern on-screen persona, showed a softer side when recalling his daughter’s determination.
“When you started, you asked me to support you,” he previously told her.
“I said, ‘Yeah, go for it, girl.’ Then we set up a business meeting… ‘Can I have some money, daddy?’ That was the business meeting! I said yeah, take it, whatever you need. It was more than I thought to get a company up and running — it’s been hard work.”
