Manchester City have missed the Ballon d'Or winner this season

Manchester City midfielder Rodri has returned to full team training as he continues his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in September.

The reigning Ballon d'Or winner was spotted at City's Etihad Campus, passing the ball around with fellow players in footage shared by Sky Sports.

The 28-year-old Spaniard has been sidelined for seven months, with his absence widely considered a significant factor in City's struggles this season.

His return to training represents a major boost for Pep Guardiola's side.

Rodri has been slowly integrating back into training sessions in recent weeks, with Wednesday's appearance not being his first training session.

The midfielder stepped up his recovery at the end of February when he was put through running and football drills.

Sky Sports News reports there is still no specific timeframe for when the Spanish Euro 2024 winner will make his on-pitch return.

Rodri's injury occurred during a Premier League clash with Arsenal, leaving a gap in City's midfield that has proven difficult to fill.

While it is unclear when Rodri will make his full return to match action, sources indicate the Club World Cup is a more realistic target than the FA Cup final or remaining Premier League games.

City are set to begin their Club World Cup campaign on 18 June against Moroccan side Wydad AC.

Guardiola had previously suggested that he initially did not expect Rodri to even be back for the Club World Cup final in mid-July.

However, the manager later indicated a return before the end of the season was not entirely off the cards.

In a further boost for Manchester City, striker Erling Haaland has also returned to training following an ankle injury that kept him out of action for five matches.

Haaland sustained the injury during City's FA Cup quarter-final victory over Bournemouth last month.

Pep Guardiola is expected to provide an update on Haaland's fitness during Thursday's news conference.

Unfortunately for City, defensive duo Nathan Ake and John Stones remain sidelined with foot and thigh injuries respectively.
