Manchester City star Phil Foden has been left upset after his cousin's home was damaged in a house fire, according to reports.

Codie Owen, whom the England midfielder regards as a 'sister', was forced to flee her property in Edgeley, Stockport, with her three children when flames tore through the house.

The blaze occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 2, starting at around 1:20am.

Fire services believe a faulty extractor fan in the first floor bathroom sparked the inferno, and the flames quickly spread through the house while Ms Owen and her three children were inside.

The incident happened at her home in Edgeley, Stockport, near League One side Stockport County's stadium, Edgeley Park.

The fire caused significant smoke damage, meaning the property is now uninhabitable for the foreseeable future.

Ms Owen bravely carried two of her young children out of the burning property to safety. She then courageously re-entered the house to rescue her third child.

Emergency services rushed Codie and her three children to Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, with the family being taken for precautionary checks due to concerns about smoke inhalation.

All four were able to escape the property before fire crews arrived to tackle the blaze.

A source close to the Premier League footballer told the newspaper: "Phil was really upset when he heard what had happened. He is really close to Codie.

"They are best pals and spent loads of time together as children. He regards her as a sister and dotes on her children.
