The match at the Emirates Stadium ended all square on Sunday

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reacted to his side's 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Spaniard's team looked as though they'd secure victory when Erling Haaland put the visitors ahead in the ninth minute of the match, with the Norwegian bagging his sixth Premier League goal of the season in the process.

But Arsenal were able to earn a draw in stoppage time, with Gabriel Martinelli lofting the ball over Gianluigi Donnarumma to earn a draw.

It was a missed opportunity for City, who are now eight points behind Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

But Guardiola wasn't too downbeat, with the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss admitting a draw was a fair reflection on the contest.

"We played tough games this week - Manchester United and in the Champions League - and today we played against a powerful team," he said.

"Hats off to our team for the resilience. It's so difficult when you're not effective with high pressing, it's always tough in the build-up.

"We made some transitions. I think the result is fair. In general Arsenal were better."

"Since the transfer window finished the togetherness has been top.

"It was so demanding today and Arsenal have everything - we defended the corners so well. We'll take the point, we have to improve but it is what it is.

"We were incredibly tired. The game against Napoli was so emotional and after that recovery day we have four or five hours to travel to London.

"Arsenal fought in the last two Premier League title races and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League so it's so difficult.

"We had a lot of fatigue with many players. We also have a lot of injuries."

Towards the end of the match, with City looking to cling on, Guardiola opted to go with five at the back.

Explaining his reasoning, he added: "We don't try to be like this but when the opponent is better we defend deeper and counter-attack, but that's not our intention.

"I would prefer not to do it but you have to at this level. I take a point and in some games we have to adjust."

Another City figure to speak out was midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.

The former AC Milan star was disappointed his side couldn't hold on to claim all three points, and admitted there's work to do.

"Unfortunately, we conceded a late equaliser - it was a tough game," he admitted.

"We had some possibilities to lead 2-0 but conceding late makes us unhappy.

"If you are 1-0 up you want the three points but everyone knows playing here at Arsenal it's difficult. We have to keep working."
