The former Manchester United star has been allowed to return to action

Paul Pogba struggled to contain his emotions as he completed his return to football with Monaco, breaking down in tears whilst signing his two-year contract.

The 32-year-old midfielder was visibly overcome during the signing ceremony, captured on video with his head in his hands before wiping away tears.

The former Manchester United star, who has been without a club since his Juventus contract was terminated, could barely speak through his emotions.

"Thank you for the trust," Pogba managed to say, supported by friends during the poignant moment.

His signing marks the end of a difficult period following an 18-month doping suspension that concluded earlier this year.

Pogba received a four-year suspension in September 2023 after an adverse drugs test, but the ban was dramatically reduced to 18 months last October. His suspension officially ended earlier this year, though his contract with Juventus had already been mutually terminated.

The midfielder's last competitive appearance came for Juventus against Empoli in September 2023. His career at the Italian club during his second stint was plagued by injuries, managing just 12 appearances before the suspension.

Monaco announced the signing of the World Cup winner on a deal running until summer 2027, offering him the chance to resurrect his career with the Champions League club.

Pogba aims to revive his career at Monaco and secure a return to the French national team before the 2026 World Cup.

In his announcement video, he declared "La renaissance," signalling his intent for a career revival in the principality.

The midfielder last represented France in a 5-0 friendly victory over South Africa in March 2022. Despite earning 91 caps and winning the 2018 World Cup with Les Bleus, Pogba has never played in Ligue 1.

Monaco finished third in the French top flight last season behind Marseille and champions Paris Saint-Germain. During his time away from football, Pogba was linked with various clubs including Marseille, Manchester City, Corinthians and several MLS sides.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Pogba's football journey has taken him from Manchester United's academy to Juventus, back to Old Trafford for a then-record £89.3million in 2016, and then to Juventus again on a free transfer in 2022.

He last played a full 90 minutes in March 2022 for United.

Speaking exclusively to Mail Sport last year, Pogba recalled discovering his ban reduction whilst trying on a suit for a film premiere. "My wife comes rushing upstairs with my phone screaming, 'It's the lawyer'," he revealed.

After taking the call, Pogba described his reaction: "I was silent. Everyone was jumping, so happy but I was in shock. Quickly that happiness turned into a determination."
