Paul Gascoigne suffered a medical emergency on Friday evening

Football icon Paul Gascoigne has been hospitalised following a medical emergency at his Dorset residence on Friday evening.

The 58-year-old former England international was discovered in a semi-conscious state in his bedroom by his friend Steve Foster.

Foster immediately arranged for the football legend to be transported to hospital from his Poole home.

The former Tottenham, Lazio and Rangers midfielder was initially admitted to an intensive care ward due to the severity of his condition.

Foster has shared an update on the former midfielder's progress, confirming that Gascoigne is now in the most suitable environment for his recovery.

The football legend has asked Foster to express his appreciation for the overwhelming support he has received.

"Paul would like to thank everyone for the support he's received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best," Foster stated.

He emphasised that hospital care represents "the best possible place for him to be right now."

The 58-year-old remains at a medical facility close to his Dorset home. Medical professionals anticipate he will need to stay for multiple days to complete his treatment programme.

Gascoigne's recent health crisis follows a challenging period for the former England star.

His business was removed from the Companies House register and dissolved at the beginning of July after failing to submit required documentation on schedule.

The midfielder, who earned 57 caps for England between 1988 and 1998, is widely regarded as one of the most talented playmakers of his era.
