Manchester United are finalising a contract with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that will see the Norwegian make a stunning return to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils sacked Ruben Amorim on Monday, with the 40-year-old losing his job after clashing with the club hierarchy.
Amorim had publicly suggested that his bosses weren't giving him enough support, with his explosive press conference after Sunday's 1-1 draw with Leeds ultimately the final straw for Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Since then, it has emerged that United are planning to appoint an interim boss until the end of the season.
Darren Fletcher will be in the dugout for tonight's Premier League showdown with Burnley at Turf Moor, while he's also expected to oversee Sunday's FA Cup match with Brighton.
However, behind the scenes, United are exploring their options as they look to finish the second half of the season on a high.
Michael Carrick is one option, with the former midfielder available following his departure from Middlesbrough last summer.
But it's Solskjaer who is currently the frontrunner, with the Norwegian ready to return after his sacking back in November 2021.

According to Norwegian publication VG, Solskjaer is now in talks with United over a contract.
There is a possibility that his Hollywood homecoming could even by sealed by as early as Friday.
Solskjaer currently lives in Cheshire, making the prospect of a return all the more likely.
The 52-year-old previously took charge of United back in December 2018 following the departure of Jose Mourinho.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked by Manchester United in 2021 but could make a stunning return | PA“It’s surreal,” he said.
“It’s an amazing honour to be able to lead a Manchester United team. I don’t even think it’s in my wildest dreams that that was something that could potentially happen.
“I think even thinking about playing for the club and stuff like that, but to lead out a team is an amazing honour, and something I’m really proud to do.
“Not in the circumstances I expected it to happen, so that obviously is something that doesn’t sit quite easy with me.
“But I’ve got a job to do, and I’ve got to lead the team tomorrow, and think of the great honour and pride in doing that.”
United's match with Burnley kicks off at 8.15pm.
