Just like that, Nuno Espirito Santo is already a manager of the past at Nottingham Forest.
The club announced late on Monday night that the former Tottenham and Wolves boss had been relieved of his duties, with a breakdown in his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis playing a key role in the decision to wield the axe.
And Forest have waited no time in replacing Nuno, with another ex-Spurs boss in the form of Ange Postecoglou poised to come in as his replacement.
The appointment is yet to be officially confirmed but it won't be long before it is. Postecoglou has agreed to take over on a contract that will run until the summer of 2027 and he's expected to be in charge for Saturday's showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Many Forest fans are sad to see Nuno go. On paper, at least, it's a gamble.
He did, after all, guide them to seventh in the Premier League table last term. With Crystal Palace forced to withdraw from the Europa League due to UEFA rules, Forest were promoted to play in Europe's second-tier competition after a season where they exceeded all expectations.
But history suggests that risks are, sometimes at least, worth taking. Southampton in 2013, for example, are a prime example.

In 2012, Nigel Adkins had guided the Saints to Premier League promotion. Yet though the club were three points clear of safety, they decided to bring the then 47-year-old's tenure to an end.
The Southampton hierarchy wanted somebody who would play entertaining, enterprising football. Adkins, with his pragmatic approach, wasn't considered the right man by his superiors.
So they decided to roll the dice by bringing in Mauricio Pochettino, who had impressed with his work at Espanyol in Spain.

Mauricio Pochettino worked wonders at Southampton during his time at the club, despite representing a gamble

Pochettino, at the time, was considered a huge gamble. Though he had flourished in LaLiga, sacking Adkins - who was steeped in experience in the English game - was a move widely criticised at the time.
But, as the old saying goes, the rest is now history.
Pochettino hit the ground running and worked wonders at St Mary's. Not only did they stay up, finishing six points clear of 18th placed Wigan Athletic, but they actually ended up 14th in the standings - something that had seemed unfeasible just months before.
Fast-forward to now and Forest's gamble might just pay off.
Postecoglou was widely mocked last season amid a dire campaign at Tottenham where the north London side finished 17th in the Premier League table.
He did, however, ultimately have the last laugh by guiding Spurs to Europa League glory. That achievement marked the club's first trophy in 17 long years and beating Manchester United in the final, without a doubt, will continue to be celebrated for years to come.

Ange Postecoglou to Nottingham Forest could end up being a masterstroke of an appointment

Yes, Postecoglou is a gung-ho manager. He sticks to his approach no matter the opposition and Forest fans can expect that to remain the case when he rocks up at the City Ground.
But Marinakis wants evolution and the Australian, compared to Nuno, represents that. Swashbuckling, scintillating football is in and pragmatic, though effective, football is out.
How he fares remains to be seen. Yet while many are questioning Forest's decision to tinker, Marinakis, Edu and the Forest board might end up vindicated in the long run.
