Mohamed Salah has hit out at a Liverpool-focused social media account for what he branded a “disrespectful” post comparing the club’s summer arrivals to its high-profile departures.

It was a transformative transfer window at Anfield, with Liverpool twice breaking the British transfer record to land Alexander Isak from Newcastle United and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

The pair headline a new-look squad that manager Arne Slot hopes can retain the Premier League title following last season's exploits.

The controversy began when fan outlet Anfield Edition shared a graphic featuring Isak, Wirtz, and departed stars Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, with the caption: “Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history.”

Salah, who remains a cornerstone of the team in the twilight years of his career, then made it clear he was unimpressed.

“How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?” the Egyptian replied, calling for more appreciation of the players who helped deliver last season’s league title.

Football fans on X reacted to the message, with one user saying: "The king, real captain! Great tweet."

A second wrote: "Well said, Mo! Legends like Diaz and Nunez were key to that title ,team success isn't just about individual swaps. Excited for Wirtz and Isak to build on that legacy."

And a third stated: "As it should be, brother. Let's stop the comparison."

While Liverpool were already strong enough, their deals for Isak and Wirtz this summer have the potential to take the team to new heights.

Isak, 25, arrived in a blockbuster £125million transfer from Newcastle after refusing to train in order to push through the move.

Liverpool were patient in negotiations, with the Magpies eventually softening their stance once they secured Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade as a replacement.

Isak left St James’ Park with an outstanding record, scoring 23 goals in 32 Premier League games last season.

His ability to stretch defences and finish clinically is expected to make him the focal point of Liverpool’s attack for years to come.

Wirtz, meanwhile, cost a staggering £116m from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 22-year-old German midfielder was courted by Europe’s elite but chose to move to Anfield in order to play under Arne Slot.

Diaz, meanwhile, is now strutting his stuff at Bayern Munich.

He has already managed four goal involvements from just two matches, with the Colombia international scoring two and assisting two.

Diaz has also already struck up a positive rapport with Harry Kane, the team's undisputed talisman.

As for Nunez, the Uruguay international now represents Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
