Liverpool have confirmed that Mohamed Salah's hamstring injury is far less serious than initially feared, with the club announcing he'll be back in action before the season wraps up.
It's welcome news that contradicts what Egypt's national team director Ibrahim Hassan had claimed earlier.
Hassan told Reuters that Salah had "suffered a hamstring tear and will require four weeks of treatment" – which would have effectively ended his campaign.
But the Reds have now confirmed it's actually just a minor muscle issue, meaning the 33-year-old forward won't miss his chance at a proper farewell after all.
Mohamed Salah suffered the injury during Liverpool's win over Crystal Palace | GETTYThe moment Salah went down during Saturday's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace had fans fearing the worst.
He was forced off in the second half after overstretching to reach a pass from Dominik Szoboszlai, and the scenes that followed were genuinely moving.
The Egyptian limped off with assistance from the physio, visibly emotional as he soaked up the adulation from the Anfield faithful.
He took time to applaud all four sides of the stadium, with supporters giving him a standing ovation in what many thought might be his final appearance in a Liverpool shirt.
The club's official statement left no room for doubt: "Liverpool FC can confirm Mohamed Salah is expected to be available to play again before the end of this season."
Mohamed Salah is already leaving Liverpool at the end of the season | REUTERSIt continued: "The issue that caused his withdrawal has now been confirmed as a minor muscle injury. It is, however, anticipated Salah will return to action ahead of 2025/26's conclusion and his departure from the Reds this summer."
Liverpool still have four Premier League matches remaining, starting with a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday.
After that comes a home clash with Chelsea, followed by an away fixture at Aston Villa, before the season concludes with what promises to be an emotional send-off against Brentford at Anfield on 24 May.
Salah announced last month that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of this season, having reached an agreement with the club to effectively cancel the final year of the two-year extension he signed last April. He'll depart as a free agent this summer.
His legacy at Anfield is remarkable – he sits third on Liverpool's all-time top scorers list with 257 goals in 440 appearances.

After the Palace match, manager Arne Slot reflected on the injury scare: "Another win and another injury. It's the story of our season.
"We all know Mo and how hard it is for him to leave the pitch."
