The striker is on loan at Getafe from Manchester United

Mason Greenwood reportedly wants LaLiga chiefs to drop their investigation into Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham.

Bellingham could miss 10 matches if hit with a ban, having allegedly called Greenwood a 'rapist' during a fixture between Getafe and Real earlier this month.

Joselu bagged both goals as Real cruised to a 2-0 victory to boost their chances of winning the Spanish crown, having missed out on the trophy to Barcelona last year.

Getafe have made an official complaint to LaLiga over the allegations, with the league referring the conflict to the competition committee of the RFEF.

If found guilty, and the incident is considered 'serious', Bellingham is in line for a four-match ban.

However, should the matter be considered 'grave', then he could miss 10 matches instead.

Yet Greenwood, according to The Sun, wants the case to be dropped.

Though the 22-year-old was left 'upset' by Bellingham's slur, the Manchester United loanee doesn't want any action to be taken.

A source is quoted as saying: “Mason has told them he doesn’t want Jude to be punished and has asked them to drop it.

“He doesn’t want bad publicity and wants to get on with playing football.

“He was very upset at the time as he didn’t expect it from someone like Jude.

“But he knows he’s always likely to be a target for that kind of stuff so he’s accepted he’ll need a thick skin.”

Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of attempted rape in January 2022.

However, prosecutors dropped the case in February last year - enabling the youngster to play football again.

The CPS based said the decision was based on 'a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light, which meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.'

Greenwood always denied the charges against him and is now enjoying life in Spain with his young family.

Last week, Sir Jim Ratcliffe suggested there was yet a chance the England international could return to United.

"I can talk about the principle. I am not going to talk about Mason. I am familiar with it," he said.

"The principle is the important one. We will have other issues going forward.

"You are dealing with young people who have not always been brought up in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and they don’t always have the guidance they should have.

"What we need to do when have issues like that is understand the real effects, not the hype, then we need to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values.

"That’s what we need to do and that’s how we will deal with it."

However, it has since emerged that Greenwood isn't sold on the idea of returning to United.

The Athletic say the 22-year-old has 'no great desire' to don their red and white colours again.

He also reportedly thinks United 'should have supported him more' during his spell away from the side.

Greenwood could be involved when Getafe lock horns with Las Palmas in their LaLiga showdown on Saturday (5.30pm).

He has five goals and five assists from 22 league games going into that match.
