Mason Greenwood faces a spell on the sidelines after sustaining an injury during Marseille's 2-1 home defeat to Lille on Sunday evening.
The 24-year-old English forward was forced off early in the contest following a brutal bodycheck from Lille's Hakon Haraldsson, which left him in considerable pain.
Marseille manager Habib Beye confirmed the striker will undergo medical assessment today.
"The impact was quite violent, he was in a lot of pain because of the double impact," Beye explained in his post-match press conference.

Compounding matters, Greenwood collected his fifth yellow card of the campaign, automatically ruling him out of the Monaco fixture following the international break.
The flashpoint erupted merely twelve minutes into proceedings when Greenwood appeared to have been played through behind Lille's defensive line.
Defender Calvin Verdonk cynically hauled him down to prevent the attack, prompting the Englishman to spring to his feet and confront the Indonesia international with a shove to the chest.
What followed proved far more damaging.
Haraldsson came charging in from Greenwood's blindside, smashing into him with considerable force and sending the forward tumbling to the turf.

Chaos ensued near the technical areas as players from both sides converged, with referee Benoit Bastien requiring several minutes to restore order before brandishing yellow cards to all three protagonists.
Beye made clear his frustration with the officiating, arguing that Haraldsson's intervention warranted far harsher punishment.
"The intervention from Haraldsson was uncontrolled, aggressive and violent," the Marseille coach stated. "Then, Haraldsson charges him in the back. So if it takes a punch for there to be a red, OK - but this violence must be punished."
He added: "They judged that it was yellow. But we have a player who is seriously injured and that changed our match."
The manager also revealed he had previously counselled Greenwood against reacting to provocation, but felt the forward's response stemmed from fear rather than aggression, making the equal punishment unjust.
Greenwood's departure necessitated the introduction of Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri, who repaid his manager's faith by firing Marseille ahead just before the interval.

However, the hosts could not maintain their advantage.
Thomas Meunier equalised three minutes after the restart, before former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud headed home from Meunier's delivery in the closing stages to secure victory for the visitors.
The loss represents a significant blow for Marseille, with Greenwood having been their most prolific marksman this term.
The Englishman has netted fifteen times in twenty-six league appearances this season, trailing only Strasbourg's Joaquin Panichelli in the Ligue 1 scoring charts.
