The England star has received further criticism from a former Old Trafford favourite

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has branded Marcus Rashford's recent antics as 'disrespectful'.

Cole believes the England international must take a look at himself in the mirror and start following the lead set by his old team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rashford has been punished by United following his booze-filled trip to Belfast last week, which saw him report ill to training.

He is reported to have been given a two-week fine by the Red Devils after he missed the FA Cup tie against Newport County on Sunday.

It is the third time Rashford has gotten on the wrong side of his manager Erik ten Hag in the last 14 months.

He was dropped to the bench for a match at Wolves in December 2022 for turning up late to a team meeting.

Rashford was also condemned by Ten Hag for celebrating his birthday earlier this season just hours after a defeat to rivals Manchester City.

Cole says he has no problem with players going on nights out, claiming it was a regular occurrence during his career.

However, he says it is not fair for him to then miss both training and a match.

Cole told the Daily Mail: "I’m surprised Marcus has found himself in this position again.

"We never minded a night out when I was playing and everyone is entitled to a night out but ultimately when you do have a night out you need to turn up for training.

"You can’t go on a couple of nights out and then call in sick - that’s disrespectful.

"He has found himself in hot water and Erik ten Hag has dealt with it internally and the situation is now over but he needs to have a look at himself."

Rashford was brought straight back into the United side for the Premier League match away to Wolves on Thursday.

He scored within five minutes to silence some of his doubters, as United ran out 4-3 winners in a dramatic match.

It was just his fifth goal of the season in all competitions, a far cry from the 30 he managed last term.

Cole is disappointed that Rashford has been unable to put in big returns in back-to-back seasons.

He claims he must look at the likes of Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for inspiration to be consistent at the top level.

Cole added: "If I was Marcus, which I’m not, but if it was me personally, I would be bitterly disappointed if I found myself in this situation after such a good season last season.

"I was always driven to do just as well as the season before. Look at the likes of Messi and Ronaldo they never took a season off and that’s why they have been at a level for so long.

"And whoever Marcus has around him they need to have chat with him."
