Manchester United don't want Marcus Rashford back at the club this summer, despite rumours that he could be reintegrated into the fold at Old Trafford next season.

The forward is currently on loan at Barcelona, having been deemed surplus to requirements by former Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.

Just three years ago, Rashford was on course to become a United legend after plundering 30 goals across all competitions under Erik ten Hag in the 2022/23 season.

However, after his relationship with the Dutchman soured, his time at the club ultimately never recovered.

Amorim was appointed in November 2024 and named Rashford in his first starting XI, with the winger scoring in a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town's Portman Road.

But just months later, the England international found himself on loan at Aston Villa having failed to win Amorim round.

Rashford has done well at Barcelona this season, with the 28-year-old netting 13 goals from 46 matches across all competitions.

And with Barcelona yet to make a final decision on landing him on a permanent basis, rumours have swirled that he could be given a second chance at Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, however, that's unlikely to happen.

This summer, United want to sign a left winger to compete with Matheus Cunha for a starting berth.

The Brazil international, who touched down from Wolves in the summer and took the No 10 shirt previously worn by Rashford, has become a firm fans favourite on the flank.

Though an attacking midfielder by trade, Cunha has popped up with big goals against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool over the past few months.

AC Milan's Rafael Leao has been linked, with a widespread expectancy that he'll be allowed to leave the San Siro for the right price once the transfer window reopens.

But United don't see Rashford filling that void in the squad, while they're also pleased with how Patrick Dorgu has been developing.

Michael Carrick, who is widely expected to be given the United job on a permanent basis after a sensational stint as interim, previously played alongside Rashford.

The pair were teammates during Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho's time in charge.

Yet as the World Cup approaches this summer, Rashford's future remains uncertain with Barcelona still considering whether to sign him permanently.

Catalan media have suggested that Anthony Gordon is being targeted as an alternative, though Newcastle are likely to demand big money to part ways with their prized asset.

Meanwhile, the report says that morale at United is extremely high.

Players are even daring to dream of challenging for and winning the Premier League title next season, given the progress they've made.

Carrick's appointment in January was divisive, with some club icons adamant that he'd be out of his depth.

With 10 victories from 14 league matches, however, they've qualified for the Champions League and are on course to finish third in the Premier League table.

Speaking last month, meanwhile, Carrick was asked about Rashford.

He said: "There's decisions to be made on certain things, and obviously Marcus is in that situation.

"But at this point in time, nothing's been decided.

"It will be, because it has to be at a certain point, but at this stage, there's nothing to say."
