Mexican football authorities and Club Deportivo Guadalajara have imposed financial penalties on former Manchester United forward Javier Hernandez following inflammatory posts about women on social media.
The 37-year-old striker published Instagram content last Friday suggesting women should concentrate on domestic responsibilities including "multiplying, cleaning, maintaining the home" whilst claiming they were responsible for "eradicating masculinity" in society.
Both the Mexican Football Federation and Hernandez's current club Chivas have taken disciplinary measures against the player, who earned the nickname 'Chicharito' during his time at Old Trafford.
The federation confirmed that Mexico's Gender and Diversity Commission had launched an investigation into the footballer's statements, aiming to "prevent and punish this behaviour".

In his social media outburst, Hernandez declared that women were "failing" and making society "hypersensitive" through their supposed destruction of masculine values.
The footballer urged women to "embrace your feminine energy" and suggested they should focus on "nurturing, caring, receiving" whilst allowing themselves "to be led by a man who only wants to see you happy".
His Instagram post continued with claims that men "do not know heaven without you" but insisted women "must learn to honour masculinity".

The controversial statements followed an earlier post on Thursday where Hernandez questioned: "So, you want a man who provides, but for you, cleaning is patriarchal oppression? Interesting."
He accompanied this message with the caption: "Interesting. (Home is not patriarchy, it's your temple)."
Mexico's first female president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, responded to the controversy by stating: "Chicharito is a very good [footballer] but when it comes to his opinion on women... he still has a lot to learn."

The Mexican Football Federation joined forces with the nation's premier men's and women's leagues to issue a unified response condemning the player's remarks.
Chivas declared that Hernandez's statements contradicted the organisation's "principles and values" and confirmed they had implemented "appropriate action" against their player, though specific details of the sanctions were not disclosed.
Social media users expressed outrage at the footballer's comments, with one responding: "This video really makes you [look] crazy. Just to think that honouring the woman is reducing her to taking care of the house."
Hernandez enjoyed a successful five-year spell at Manchester United between 2010 and 2015, securing two Premier League championships during his tenure.
The striker remains Mexico's most prolific international goalscorer with 52 goals from 109 matches and has represented prestigious clubs including Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham United.

In previous interviews, Hernandez acknowledged personal shortcomings, admitting to The Ringer: "I wasn't the best partner I needed to be, I wasn't the greatest dad that I wanted to be."
He revealed that his marital separation led him to embark on a "very deep spiritual and philosophical path" and spoke candidly about difficulties maintaining regular contact with his children following the breakdown of his marriage.
