The former goalkeeper, who played for Manchester City, was not impressed with the fans at the Etihad

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel tore into the atmosphere at the Etihad after Manchester City drew 0-0 with Inter Milan.

Pep Guardiola's men could not start their Champions League campaign with a win on Wednesday night after sharing the points with the Italian champions.

In a repeat of the 2023 Champions League final, both sides had excellent opportunities to win the match but could not break the deadlock.

But after the match, while speaking to CBS Sports as a pundit, Schmeichel was not impressed with the atmosphere within the Etihad.

The legendary goalkeeper, who played for both sides in Manchester, said: "I don't think it's a good draw.

"I thought it was a really, really boring game. I'm sorry to say that. I thought Inter did really well in stopping Man City.

"I like good football and I like excitement from the crowd. It was dead. The Etihad today was absolutely dead.

"The only people we could hear were the Inter supporters who were quite good. But there's no atmosphere in the Etihad [on Wednesday night].

"Normally you'd think "well, a big European night", but it didn't happen for them."

Speaking in the CBS Sports studio, former City star Micah Richards took offence with Schmeichel's comments and said: "Are you disrespecting my club?"

But sharp as a flash, Schmeichel hit back: "Once in a while, I leave the studio and experience it (the atmosphere)."

City's bore draw was the first time they had dropped points this season after four wins out of four in the Premier League.

The English champions remain one of the favourites to go all the way in the Champions League this year after missing out last season.

And Guardiola insisted he was happy with the performance on Wednesday night as City prepare to take on Arsenal on Sunday.

“We faced a really, really difficult team, the champions from Italy,” said Guardiola.

“They are physical and they have [strength in] all departments.

“They build up from Sommer and Bastoni, playing on the transition. I am really satisfied for the game we played.

“They are masters of defending deep. They help each other unbelievably so you cannot expect to create a lot of chances. We created some chances.

“We played much better than two years ago in the final of the Champions League. I like everything from my team today. We would prefer to win but still seven games, see what happens.”
