Mohamed Salah was forced off the pitch in Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations clash against Ghana.

Mohamed Salah has given Liverpool fans a scare after being forced off with injury in Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations tie with Ghana.

The Egyptian superstar has been crucial to Liverpool's title charge this season with 18 goals and nine assists in all competitions.

But Liverpool are without Salah for the next few weeks at least after he joined up with Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations.

He scored a dramatic equaliser from the penalty spot to save a point in Egypt's opening group match against Mozambique.

Their match against Ghana was therefore seen as a must-win to help their chances of progressing out of the group stages.

But their chances were dealt a huge blow at the end of the first half when Salah fell to the ground and clutched at the back of his left thigh.

Salah appeared aware that he wouldn't be able to carry on as he made his way off the pitch.

The news hit Liverpool fans hard, who immediately feared the worst that Salah might be out for a long period of time.

One fan worried: "What if Salah gets a kdb type injury..."

Another noted: "Mo Salah has never had a muscle injury in his career. Praying for a speedy recovery Mo."

A third demanded: "Salah back to England ASAP hoping the injury is not too serious."

A fourth wrote: "Salah injured. Just our luck."

Another bemoaned: "Salah injured. We have unbelievably bad luck."

Salah has been unavailable for Liverpool since January 1 when he scored twice and provided an assist in their 4-2 win over Newcastle.

The Reds haven't had a Premier League game since as part of the winter break, but they have beaten Arsenal in the FA Cup and won the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham.

Games then come thick and fast for Liverpool starting this weekend when they travel to Bournemouth on Sunday.

That match is quickly followed by the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Fulham on Wednesday before their FA Cup fourth-round tie against Norwich.

Liverpool then face tricky back-to-back league games versus Chelsea and Arsenal heading into February.

If Egypt make it through to the final and Salah's injury isn't serious, then the winger may not be back until Liverpool's match against Brentford on February 17.
