Ella Toone, one of the Lionesses’ standout stars and a two-time Euros champion, has announced her engagement to partner Joe Bunney after a romantic proposal in Ibiza.

The 25-year-old Manchester United forward, who played a pivotal role in helping England secure their second European Championship crown this summer in Switzerland, shared the special moment with her 31-year-old fiancé while on holiday.

Bunney, a former Rochdale and Bolton defender who now plays for Stalybridge Celtic in the Northern Premier League Division, popped the question in front of a stunning heart-shaped flower display.

The couple revealed the news on Instagram, posting a series of photos that captured the moment Bunney went down on one knee.

Their post was simply captioned: "Forever… 04/08/25", marking the date of their engagement.

The announcement quickly drew an outpouring of congratulations from fans and friends alike.

Messages such as "Congrats guys", "Ah huge congratulations", and "Everything about this is perfect" filled the comments section.

Toone and Bunney are believed to have met through mutual friends and have been publicly linked since 2022, when they were first spotted together on a post-Euros holiday in Ibiza after Toone’s maiden tournament win.

Despite being a passionate Manchester City fan, Bunney has regularly been seen supporting Toone in her Manchester United matches.

Bunney’s football career has taken him through various levels of the English game, featuring for clubs such as Northampton Town, Bolton Wanderers, and Rochdale.

Away from the pitch, he is a father of two, with Arlo playing a special role in the couple’s engagement moment.

While this summer has brought Toone career highs and a personal milestone, it has also been tinged with sadness.

The England star recently revealed that her grandmother passed away on the day of the Euros 2025 final.

She described the bittersweet emotions of lifting the trophy while dealing with such a personal loss, saying the victory carried extra meaning knowing her nan would have been proud.

Toone wrote: “Even in the highest of highs life can hit you with the lowest of lows.

"My Nana Maz took her last breath on the morning of our Euro final.

"I have comfort in knowing she got to watch from the best seat in the house with Dad, her favourite person. I’ll miss you forever Nan but I’ll cherish the special memories we made.

"There isn’t enough words I can possibly say to sum up the person you were, but I’m grateful you were my Nanna.
